Private Group Sexual Education
FOR TEENS
In 2008, I co-facilitated the Global Youth Leadership Summit in Korcula, Croatia. The 10-day summit was created to be a gathering of teens from South Africa, Los Angeles, the Hawaiian Islands, and the Balkan States to explore their own histories of both personal and community violence and to join together in the spirit of healing to become Peace Ambassadors for their home communities. It was an exciting opportunity to do global cross-cultural crisis intervention counselling and support.
In the summer of 2010, I taught a class of 6th grade girls at Punahou School on Oahu, Hawaii about positive psychology, self-esteem, body dysmorphia and anti-bullying. The course included everything from yoga, to magic tricks, to African Drum Circle, to dialoguing on issues regarding puberty and nurturing their experiences of going from little girls to young women. It was an opportunity to hone my group facilitation skills with pre-teens, and helped me to gain confidence in working with insecurities and self-image.
Moving to Paris in the fall of 2010, I implemented a peer mentoring program at the American School of Paris. The program trained 11th and 12th graders to co-facilitate the year-long 9th grade guidance course; they helped the younger students feel part of a caring and attentive community by providing useful information around personal health and well-being. I was also asked by the newly-formed LGBTQ+ student group to be their faculty advisor. The peer-mentoring program was a success, and I was asked to create a curriculum for their school’s Health course.
The Health course was for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students and taught various topics including screen-time hygiene, eating disorders, and sexual health. The health curriculum was welcomed by the students, parents, and teachers and I was asked to expand it to other international schools in Paris. After a few years of teaching, I was recruited to teach at another school where I was asked to develop the sexual education curriculum specifically into a school-wide program.
Educational group discussions for teens
Using my experience with teaching at international schools, I have developed a workshop for teens that covers topics including sexting, pornography, relationships, appropriate touch, communication, and contraception. There is an option to have the parents included in the group, once the rapport with the teens has been established.
FAMILY SESSIONS
3hr Private Family Sessions
I am offering private sessions for families to deliver a bespoke version of the curriculum that I developed for the international schools.
This is a three-hour session, ending with a Q&A for both parents and children (respectively) where you can ask me anything that is on your mind.
Depending on the area of concern, I can tailor the content to focus more on the needs of the family. This is an opportunity for me to talk to the children in a relaxed, confidential setting.
SCHOOL SESSIONS
School Sessions
I also offer private sessions for school settings ranging from primary school to secondary school. Having developed curriculum for the American School of Paris and Marymount International School, I have experience working with administrations, leadership teams, parent organizations, and teachers to create a tailored curriculum for the educational system.
I have a bespoke curriculum which I developed for the international schools in Paris which I can tailor for your students.
« I would especially like to thank Jessamy for all that she has done so far to support these students. Her energy, experience and warmth have been invaluable to our efforts to get this program off the ground to help these mentors be effective in their roles as Peer Mentors. »
« Jessamy works tirelessly to revise our curriculum to meet the needs of this very diverse group. I was impressed by Jessamy’s insights, her natural leadership abilities, her energy, enthusiasm, creativity, and her willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty when crisis intervention counselling or counselling support was needed. »
